Zenmile Introduction

Introduction

Overview

Urban commuters often face heavy traffic, leading to longer journey times, increased accident risks, higher stress levels, and a negative environmental impact due to elevated emissions.

The Challenge

Explore solutions to improve drivers' commuting experiences while encouraging eco-friendly driving practices.

Design Process

project process and timeline

The Outcome

Created a gamified reward system for safe, eco-friendly driving with intuitive, distraction-free features to make commutes enjoyable and seamless.

Research

Research Statement

Our research identified factors affecting driver performance, such as cognitive tasks on visual attention, lifestyle changes for safer, efficient driving, and intelligent vehicle behavior analysis systems.

User interviews

Our user interviews indicated that driving significantly impacts drivers' emotions, with stress levels peaking en route.

Insights Synthesis

Key Insight 1

Drivers Use Driving as a Stress Reliever.

"I enjoy driving when there’s no traffic, driving distresses me." - P1

Key Insight 2

Drivers Prefer Minimal Interactions While Driving.

" I prefer to keep interactions minimal while driving to focus more on the road." - P2

Key Insight 3

Driving Demands Mental Focus.

"I usually force myself to focus on the car in front of me and observe the details of the car". - P3

Ideation

Our ideation phase generated several ideas driven by user interaction, with three standout directions below.

project ideation

Pretotyping

To validate our direction and ensure feasibility, we pretotype all three concepts, with Eco-driving showing the most favorable results.

Pretotyping

Eco-Driving

Core mechanic: Real-Time Feedback and Reward System based on eco-friendly driving behaviors.

Goal: Get as many points as possible by driving eco-friendly.

Play Test & Documentation

We documented the Eco-driving coach system, including its rules, conducted another round of testing, and refined it based on user feedback.
